<h1>Max and Moishe. Moishe now has a big black bushy tail to match his hair.</h1>
<p>Will post more details after Halloween.</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1667" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1667.JPG" alt="CIMG1667" width="225" height="300" /></p>
<dl id="attachment_1277" style="width: 235px;"><img title="CIMG1680" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1680.JPG" alt="MAX_Where_the _Wild_Things_Are_Costumes" width="225" height="300" /> </dl>
<p>The whiskers are made of pipe cleaners and sewed on with a sewing machine</p>
<div>
<dl id="attachment_585" style="width: 235px;"><img title="CIMG1696" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1696.JPG" alt="Max Where the Wild Things Are Costume" width="225" height="300" /> </dl>
<p>The tail is tied around the waist and has an opening in the PJ's so it does not pull down the costume.</p>
</div>
<div>
<dl id="attachment_580" style="width: 310px;"><img title="CIMG1690" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1690.JPG" alt="Max Where the Wild Things Are Costume" width="300" height="225" /> </dl>
<div>14 gauge wire is bent on two ends and arched over the top of the head. The arch is sewn in. The ears are stuffed with batting and sewn on to the hood. They stand up perfectly straight.</div>
<div>We have Max's PJ's and tail.</div>
<div>We made the PJ's from a cream colored fleece.</div>
</div>
<ul>
<li>
<div>I took an old pair of blue jeans to cut as the pattern and just cut it up to the shoulder. The body is just two pieces of fabric.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>There is a fold on the side and no side seam.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>A placket was made for the opening and then a flap was attached.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>I made a mandarin collar for the neck.</div>
</li>
<li>Rather than have wide arms that flap around we narrowed the arms at the cuff area but left them really long.</li>
<li>
<div>The folded up cuff (folded four time) gives the appearance of being oversized, without really being oversized.<strong> </strong></div>
</li>
</ul>
<div>
<dl id="attachment_1273" style="width: 310px;"><img title="CIMG1676" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1676.JPG" alt="MAX_Where_the _Wild_Things_Are_Costumes" width="300" height="225" /> </dl>
</div>
<p><img title="MaxPJPattern" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/MaxPJPattern-268x483-custom.jpg" alt="MaxPJPattern" width="268" height="483" /></p>
<p>I sewed up the shoulders then sewed the center seam just as you would a pair of pants. Really this is just an extra long waisted single seam pant (that goes up to your shoulders!).</p>
<p>I cut an opening for the arm and measured a piece of fabric that wide. The lenght was to the tip of the finger plus six inches. I attached the arm to the costume and sewed down the underside of the arm.</p>
<p>I began to seriously narrow the arm at the elbow to a tight fitting sleeve at the wrists. We decided not to have the big floppy sleeve but to create the image of over sized PJ's with the extra length of the sleeve that was then rolled up four times.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p>I made a long placket to be placed on the front seem and attached it. We glued the covered buttons to that. These are extra large -- almost cartoon quality.</p>
<p>The PJ's are closed with velcro squares placed on the underside of the placket.</p>
<p><strong>Max's Tail</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>
<div>When cutting the tail I left a good bit of bulk for the inside seam so there is no stuffing.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>The tail is attached to elastic and sticks through the PJ's.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Attaching a tail direcly to the PJ's weighs the costume down.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>The extra tail fur will trim the crown.<strong> </strong></div>
</li>
</ul>
<div><strong>PJ Buttons</strong></div>
<ul>
<li>
<div>
<div>The PJ's close with velcro.</div>
</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>
<div>Buttons are not real buttons but are hot glued fabric on cardboard.</div>
</div>
</li>
<li>The buttons are hot glued on suit.</li>
<li>
<div>The buttons are made from an oval piece of card board.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Fluffy fabric from the Moishe custom was hot glued on.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Then the buttons were covered with fleece, hot glued to the back of the cardboard.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Buttons this large -- if they worked as real buttons would be too heavy and drop.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>These are decorative buttons and look really cool out of the same fabric as the PJs.</div>
</li>
</ul>
<div><strong> </strong><strong>Hood:</strong></div>
<ul>
<li>This is a standard hood.</li>
<li>It has two sides sewn together</li>
<li>So you cut four pieces of the hood as shown below -- adjusting for the size of your Max.</li>
<li>Two and two are sewn together to make two hoods.</li>
<li>Then the two hoods are sewn together to make one hood with a lining.</li>
<li>A band is at the bottom.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Hood Ears</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>I used 14 gauge wire and slipped it through the top of the hood to hold the ears</li>
<li>The ears are stuffed with extra fleece cut in small piece.</li>
<li>Ears are slipped over the wire</li>
<li>Ears are sewn to hood</li>
</ul>
<div><strong><img title="CIMG1688" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1688.JPG" alt="CIMG1688" width="300" height="225" /></strong></div>

<div><strong> </strong></div>
<div><strong> </strong></div>
<div><strong> </strong><strong>Mittens</strong></div>
<div>Are made like Moishe's hands were made as follows:</div>
<p><img title="CIMG1663" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1663.JPG" alt="CIMG1663" width="300" height="225" /></p>

<p>Purchase your height times two plus about a foot in the back for a train.</p>
<p>Shred the tulle at the end for the veil and attach it to a head piece made from a headband.  Leave a train.</p>

<p><em><strong>But read this == for your children's safety.</strong></em></p>
<p>Recently the Washington Toxics Coalition staff scientist Erika Schreder checked the costumes with a widely accepted, handheld x-ray gun called XFR that detects toxic heavy metals and some chemical compounds.</p>
<p>In a plastic sword, traces of lead in the paint that registered at 66 parts per million were found -- well below the federal limit of 600 parts per million.</p>

<p>Max and Moishe -- Must add modeling clay to the paper mache head for dimensions and contour.</p>
<p>See Instructions on separate page.</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1694" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1694.JPG" alt="Where_the_Wild_Things_Are_Costume" width="225" height="300" /></p>
<h1>Max and Moishe. Moishe now has a big black bushy tail to match his hair.</h1>
<p>Will post more details after Halloween. We are overwhelmed with orders.</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1667" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1667.JPG" alt="CIMG1667" width="225" height="300" /></p>
<p>Pants made from Calvin Klein tropic weight wool and silk print.</p>
<p>Good fit and extremely comfortable with pockets.</p>
<p>Max and Moishe -- Must add modeling clay to the paper mache head for dimensions and contour.</p>
<p>Two eyes made with one tennis ball cut in half.</p>
<p>Nose made with tennis ball cut down the middle, squished together with duct tape and duct tape put at the top to elongate nose.</p>
<p>Here's our Max as well!</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1694" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1694.JPG" alt="Where_the_Wild_Things_Are_Costume" width="225" height="300" /></p>
<p>Have to add the dimensions and contours to Moishe's face with modeling clay and shade with paint.  Have put in nostrils and modeling clay to contour face and images will be up soon.</p>
<p>We wanted to go ahead and show what we had!</p>
<p>Moishe began as a $2.77 ball.</p>
<p>We added five layers of paper mache allowing each layer to dry completely.</p>
<p>We reinforced the neck area with about two more layers of paper mache.</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1713" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1713.JPG" alt="CIMG1713" width="300" height="225" /></p>
<p><img title="CIMG1712" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1712.JPG" alt="CIMG1712" width="300" height="225" /></p>
<p>Because Moishe has an oval head we glued batting to the side of his head and put the fur over the batting.</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1739" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1739.JPG" alt="CIMG1739" width="300" height="225" />\</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1740" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1740.JPG" alt="CIMG1740" width="300" height="225" /></p>
<p>We cut a mouth and painted his face.</p>
<p>We glued on the teeth, hair and horns.  Teeth and horns made from styrofoam cup and white duct tape.</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1737" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1737.JPG" alt="CIMG1737" width="300" height="225" /></p>
<p>I added two layerrs of foam rubber at the top of the head and then to that I glued a very light weight bicycle helmet.  This left the eyes at mouth level with great vision and a very good fit.</p>
<p>To his sweater.  This is for a large man but is on a small female mannequin.</p>
<p>His tail is really black and furry with 14 guage wire in it to give it shape.</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1667" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1667.JPG" alt="CIMG1667" width="225" height="300" /></p>
<p>For Wild Thing we have decided on our a low pile furry fabric and have cut it out in strips.</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1608" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1608.JPG" alt="CIMG1608" width="300" height="225" /></p>
<p><img title="CIMG1613" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1613.JPG" alt="CIMG1613" width="300" height="225" /></p>
<ul>
<li>Our orange stripes are nine inches long and the white stripes are seven inches long.</li>
<li>We sewed them together to make the body shirt for Wild Thing.</li>
<li>We have three orange stripes and four white stripes.</li>
</ul>
<p><img title="CIMG1615" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1615.JPG" alt="CIMG1615" width="300" height="400" /></p>
<p><img title="CIMG1616" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1616.JPG" alt="CIMG1616" width="300" height="225" /></p>
<p><img title="CIMG1637" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1637.JPG" alt="CIMG1637" width="300" height="225" /></p>
<p><img title="CIMG1642" src="http://www.halloweentutu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1642.JPG" alt="CIMG1642" width="300" height="225" /></p>
<p>Cut one half of the shirt, fold it over to cut the other side so they will match.</p>
<p>With some extra fabric we made a tail prototype until we find the perfect furry fabric.</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1645" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1645-225x300.jpg" alt="CIMG1645" width="225" height="300" /></p>
<p>We put four darts in the front of the overshirt at the bottom in the front and the four darts in the back of the shirt.</p>
<p>For the sleeves the first orange stripe is four and a half inches, the white stipe is seven inches, the next orange stripe is nine inches.</p>
<p><img title="WildThingSleeve" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/WildThingSleeve-224x300.jpg" alt="WildThingSleeve" width="224" height="300" /></p>
<p>The width of the sleeve is the same width of the opening for the sleeve.</p>
<p>Attach sleeve.</p>
<p>Put a small roll collar at the top.</p>
<p><img title="CIMG1667" src="http://tututoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/CIMG1667.JPG" alt="CIMG1667" width="225" height="300" /></p>
